Shannon Group CEO welcomes Northern Distributor Road vote
The CEO of Shannon Group, Matthew Thomas, has welcomed the approval by councillors for the Northern Distributor Road (NDR) as another positive boost for the region.
Mr Thomas said that the NDR would be a stimulant for further growth on the north side of Limerick and, in turn, would be positive for the region. “For effective regional development to happen, strong cities are an essential in the regions and the Northern Distributor Road is critical for Limerick if it’s to reach its potential. The stronger Limerick gets, the better it is for Shannon Airport and the stronger Shannon Airport gets the better it is for Limerick and the region. It’s a symbiotic relationship and developing the NDR will be a very significant contribution to that relationship.
“The road will be a leveller for the city, which has progressed more on the south-side and will also support the city centre by alleviating traffic congestion around it and, therefore, improving access. “Limerick has been one of the greatest, if not the greatest, success story of the Irish economic recovery and this will ensure the NDR will ensure the trajectory continues in the right direction. “I also welcome the balanced approach to this, with a clear emphasis on the council of ensuring all concerns are addressed in the plans so this will be a road that will benefit all.”
