Shannon Heritage

Shannon Heritage is one of Ireland’s largest visitor experience operators, complete with six castles and a variety of other day and evening visitor attractions in Clare, Limerick, Galway and Dublin. Shannon Heritage was one of the first companies in Ireland to develop and run heritage attractions and evening entertainments. The company has been in the tourism business since 1963, and has been a market leader since that time. Over 300 people are employed by Shannon Heritage in the peak tourist season.

The Shannon Heritage portfolio has grown over the years and began in 1963 with the operation of its first medieval banquet at Bunratty Castle in Co. Clare. The idea of medieval banquets came about as a result of the need to give transatlantic passengers a reason to get off aircraft at Shannon Airport and tour the local area.

The major success of this attraction led to the rapid expansion of its visitor portfolio. Today Shannon Heritage operates seven day-visitor sites and four evening entertainment events. Among the new editions to the portfolio is Malahide Castle and Gardens in Dublin. The company’s operations contribute an estimated €20 million annually in spin-off revenue, benefiting a range of local businesses across many sectors including the accommodation and tourism services sectors.
